In recent days, Head Coach Brad Vigon has informed the Mustangs Committee that he will be stepping down as Head Coach for the 2016 season. Below is a note Brad wanted to share with our members and supporters.
"I am stepping down as the head coach of the Melbourne Mustangs. It has been a fantastic three years with the club and a wild ride.
The first year we took a team that had been at the bottom of the league and made a rapid rise and showed the league that we were the real deal. Our old fans stuck with us and we picked up a massive amount as well. We finished just outside the finals and knew that we could play with anyone in the league.
In the second year our plan was to improve upon the last season, make the top four and play in our first finals ever. We outstripped all expectations, even our own and not only finished on top of the league, but also won the Goodall Cup. It was a dream come true.
Last season, we knew we were no longer going to slip under the radar and sneak up on anyone. As the reigning champions everyone brought their "A" game and wanted to unseat the champs. We were on the wrong side of more one goal games than I care to remember and created quite a mountain to climb if we wanted to make the finals. We had a good second half and some memorable wins, but in the end we couldn't make up the lost ground.
I have decided to step down as the commitment level as this point has become more than I can handle, and it is time for someone else to come in and move the club forward. It is time to spend more time with Emily and the boys and shuttle them back and forth to their own sports and activities. You still will see me around at games and I will be "Bleeding Orange" along with you all.
A huge thank you to my wife Emily for supporting me through all of this. To Mick Flaherty for all his support. To Andy McDowell, Rod Johns and John Belic for entrusting me with running the team. To all of the committee members and volunteers who keep this organisation on the rails, and to the best fans in the league that supported us through all of our ups and down whether we were winning or losing."
Brad will always be remembered fondly at the Mustangs, delivering us our first Goodall Cup in 2014. We wish Brad the best with his future endeavours and thank his family for their tireless support.
The Club has already implemented a process to seek and recruit a Head Coach for the 2016 Season. This process will be completed before 2016 preseason tryouts.
