Welcome Maxime Langelier-Parent

Welcome Maxime Langelier-Parent

Melbourne Mustangs

The James Melbourne Mustangs are pleased to announce the signing of French-Canadian forward Maxime Langelier-Parent (188cm, 94kg) for 2017. Max will be wearing #16 for the Mustangs.

Previously a prospect of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Max has played in the AHL for the Syracuse Crunch and the ECHL for the Florida Everblades, as well as spending four years at McGill University where in 2012 he helped deliver the team their first CIS National Championship since the format was created in 1962. Max also holds the McGill record for career shorthanded goals. He then took his skills to Europe, playing in the EIHL and in France.

Originally working with the Mustangs as a coach, Max has decided he's not actually ready to retire afterall.
"The plan was initially for me to help out the coaching staff on and off the ice for the upcoming season. However, as on-ice practices came along I felt like I wasn’t ready yet to stand behind a bench while guys were competing on the ice. The timing was great this season for me to go back to my passion and go on a journey with a great group of guys. Everybody in the organization has been great with me since day one and I’m very excited about this new challenge."

Why should Mustangs fans be excited about him joining their team? "I believe the greatest thing I can bring to the team is experience. I’ve been fortunate enough to win a national championship with McGill University, spend 2 years playing pro in North America and 2 years in Europe and I’ve learnt a great deal from each experience. I plan on bringing some offensive power to the team while being reliable defensively and committing myself to a team first mentality. I’ve heard great things about the team’s fan base and they can expect me to play with passion every single game, whether this means helping the team offensively or playing a physical game."

Head Coach Michael Flaherty agreed with Max's view of himself. "We think Max will bring a great attitude and strength to the team. His presence on the ice will be undoubtedly an asset."

Because Max has been with the team since the start of pre-season, we asked him for his take on how things are going so far.
"We’ve made some very good progress since the beginning of the training camp. Guys are working very hard and it’s starting to pay off. There is still a month left before the beginning of the season but we are definitely going in the right direction. The two games against New Zealand will be a great test for us to assess where we are as a team and the details we need to work on to be on top of our game when the season starts. Should be two very good games!"

The pre-season games against New Zealand will be your first chance to see our newest import in action in the orange and black. Get your tickets now from bit.ly/MustangsNZ!
